Monk clocks are more frequently found as shelf clocks as opposed to the earlier form of shield such as the example here.

This clock is unusual. It has three trains: a time train, a strike train to count the hours, and the animation train that causes a monk to bend at the waist to pull the bell rope. At the same time, the Angelus or call to player, is struck on two bells in rapid succession. This occurs at six o'clock in the morning, again at Noon, and once more at six o'clockk in the evening.

during the rest of the day, the clock strikes the hour like any other clock counting the hours on a separate bell.
